Holi! I am Diana
I'm Diana L. Giraldo Franco, currently I'm a postdoctoral researcher at Universiteit Antwerpen. Before this, I completed a Joint PhD which granted me the titles of Doctor of Engineering at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and Doctor of Science at Universiteit Antwerpen.
I studied mathematics, then I didn't know what to do with that, then I discovered the world of medical image processing and I liked it a lot. I found many challenges with real purpose where all the things I learned during my math years were actually very useful. Going into that research path sounded like having a career where the job was to study and apply what you learned to solve problems, and that was enough to lure me into it.
My research journey has been a mix of: data analysis (old-school math and stats), image processing, a lot of programming, assembling neuroimaging processing pipelines, designing and testing machine learning methods to predict disease outcomes, and deep learning methods to improve image quality. I also have guided students, managed my research projects, written scientific papers, and made tons of presentations. (Sometimes it's a bit hard to explain in a few words what I do)
I enjoy a lot of things: taking care of plants, cooking and eating, running, day trips on the bike, reading fun stories, sightseeing, and visiting museums to be amazed by what people did before computers and the internet. Let's say I embrace the joys of the offline world.
To be honest, I asked an AI assistant to write a profile for me and I didn't like it at all, none of the very similar versions it produced. So if you find something odd in this description of myself, put the blame on me.
Hablo EspaƱol, I work in English, en ik spreek een beetje Nederlands.
